Cannon Street Station – Major Engineering Project Christmas 2011

Winners of the 2011 Fire Excellence Awards

An Underground Christmas Tale

Hillmoore Fire Protection committed to what seemed like an impossible task over the 2010 Christmas period.

London Underground required a fire rated passenger tunnel to be installed within the entrance to Cannon Street Underground Station. The original construction partner to main contractors Laing O’Rourke withdrew from the project at the end of November.

Hillmoore Fire Protection were approached for their experience and expertise, and committed to the redesign, supply and installation with only four weeks to the planned shutdown.

The construction needed to be completed in a four day period beginning on Boxing Day night.

Hillmoore directly employ its labour force, and were not reliant upon agency or self employed labour as most other passive fire protection specialists do. Our operatives are trained and independently assessed by FIRAS.

We worked 24 hours a day using 3 teams over a 4 day period to achieve what others thought was not possible. It was accomplished through sheer determination and dedication, with a great deal of satisfaction and pride gained from the project. As a result of this achievement we were awarded the 2011 Fire Excellence Award for the best Fire Safety Installation.

Gratitude and thanks go out to the team that delivered this. An engineering achievement to be proud of.
